accommodation
Knowing travellers are sometimes on a tight budget or simply want to save the money for the real important things (jumping off bridges, air-balooning or simply old-fashioned shopping) we have grabbed together some New Zealand accommodation advice.
The cheapest way to sleep in New Zealand is in one of AllWays Rental campervans, but even then you sometimes want to crash in a tent, at one of New Zealand's many campgrounds or spoil yourself at a luxurious Bed & Breakfast. Whatever your accommodation needs we can help with suggesting a few places to start with.
If you are holidaying in New Zealand during peak season (December to February), we recommend you pre-book your accommodation at least two weeks in advance.
Holiday park accommodation in New Zealand includes cabins, on-site caravans and tent sites. Holiday parks have central facilities for showers, toilets, cooking and laundry and a variety of attractions such as a barbecue, games/TV room, pool, spa or playground. Many holiday parks also provide unit accommodation with ensuite facilities and some are fully self-contained with TV, kitchen and separate bedrooms. Holiday parks are a cost-effective way to see New Zealand and are great if you love camping.
Department of Conservation (DOC)
DOC looks after all the National Parks, all the Forest Parks and many other conservation areas in New Zealand (roughly 30% of NZ is conservation managed land). Most sites have good facilities, tent or parking options, and some even have huts. And all at a very cheap price.

Freedom camping
There are some districts in New Zealand that don’t allow freedom camping. These areas might not always be clearly sign posted. It’s best to always check with a local first or ask the local Visitor Information Centre (iSITE) for advice.
