interisland ferry
Being an island nation, ferries are an important mode of transportation for connecting the North and South Islands of New Zealand. The divide between New Zealand's North and South islands is one of the most beautiful parts of NZ – the Cook Strait and the Marlborough Sounds.

Travelling between the islands is easy. All you need is to board the interisland ferry, enjoy the beautiful scenery from one of the decks and after 3 hours drive off at the other side.
AllWays Rental do not have a branch in Picton and Wellington so you need to take the vehicle across the Cook Strait on one of the ferries.
Although this crossing involves a cost, there are some advantages to this way of travelling. There is no need to re-pack and unpack your belongings and to carry those with you on the ferry. There is no time waisted on drawing a new Rental Agreement and you do not need to play the gessing game of which vehicle you will be given on the other side.
The one-way rental is considered one hire, which gives you the benefit of enjoying lower car rental rates, and there is no one-way fee involved. |

BOOKING A FERRY
There are two interislander ferry operators each taking hundreds of cars and campervans. With ferries sailing several times a day there's no need to stress too much about missing out, but it is advisable to book in advance if you are on a budget.
