Caring for the planet

At AllWays Rental we care about the environment and take our share in sustaining our beautiful country.

Please read our environmental statement and take note of the recommendations so we can keep New Zealand clean and green.

As the number of people enjoying outdoor recreation rises, the impact on the natural environment is increasing. Damaged plants, unsightly rubbish, eroding short cuts, polluted water, and deteriorating facilities are now more common.
Fortunately a more sensitive attitude to the environment is also developing.
To help protect the natural environment, please follow these guidelines on your visit.

Protect plants and wildlife. Treat New Zealand's forests and birds with care and respect. They are unique and often rare.

Rubbish is one of the biggest threats to our natural areas. Plan your visit to cut down on potential rubbish. If you come across other people's rubbish, do the area a favour and carry it too.

Keep streams and lakes clean. Be careful with stoves and fires.

When camping, do your best to not leave a trace of your visit.

Many places in New Zealand have special spiritual or historical significance. Recognise the significance of these places and treat them with respect.

This environment care code document contains a 10 point checklist of things you can do when doing activities in the outdoors to help keep the environment clean and intact.

Ten ways to reduce emissions when driving around New Zealand

New Zealand, like many other countries around the world, is aware of the need to reduce Carbon emissions to counter climate change. Though transport related emissions take around 40% of New Zealand's Carbon emissions, it is relatively easy to do something about it and take our share in caring about the planet.

1. Drive smoothly. Be gentle on the accelerator. Accelerate and brake slowly and smoothly when taking off and stopping at traffic lights.

2. Choose the rental car that suits your needs. If you are traveling light or only around the main cities, take a smaller vehicle. Large and powerful cars are nice to have but they produce higher emissions and leave a larger impact on our planet. Too small a car is inefficient as New Zealand’s great outdoor roads are hilly and mountainous.

3. When visiting a main centre, consider using public transport or walking instead of driving. Walking is the most sustainable form of transport and is a great way to see New Zealand.

4. Looking at the traffic trying to predict what is going on ahead and maintaining a safe distance enables you to have a more constant speed which saves fuel and reduces emissions.

5. Switching off your engine when you stop. Try not to park for long periods with your engine idling. Idling gives you 0 kilometers per litre and if you are driving a diesel car it will produce harmful particulates.

6. We make sure our vehicles are serviced regularly. Please check the tyre pressure if you are on a long rental.

7. Take it easy. Keeping the speed limits will give you a more relaxed drive. You are on holiday so no need to rush. Driving slower will also help reduce your fuel bill.

8. Using the air conditioning can add 10% to your fuel consumption. So turn off the extras when you don’t need them.

9. Plan your trip. It is nice to wonder around when on holiday but a little time dedicated to planning your trip will result in fewer diversions on the way.

10. Avoid peak time. Some cities suffer from congestion. Avoiding these will save fuel and emissions.
